The placebo effect is interesting. I am currently taking Neuroscience and it is amazing how descending cortical pathways, activated by thoughts, can alter the neurochemical signalling at synapses in subcortical structures.

Are you familar with other current studies describing the placebo effect?

I also think the placebo effect is fascinating. Personally, I feel that it is in the best interest of patient to have their medical condition managed without the use of medications if at all possible due to the toxicity and/or complicated drug interactions that can occur when using medications. Of course, in most cases that is not possible but I would like to see more research efforts in identifying treatment modalities where placebos would be an effective alternative.
