I agree it is a great article !

I think we do not want to "step" over bodies in the parking lot because of an inherent compassion that most human beings have. We don't like to see suffering, just like we don't like to see a child cry.

But the question is how much are we willing to pay for compassion? Isn't there a way to make compassion more cost effective ?

I think using evidence based medicine will help physicians deliver compassionate and efficient care.
