This thread discusses the Content article: Sporting events and Emergency Department visits

I have heard of a study which reported that pediatricians get less calls during NFL football games and after the game is over, the volume of calls increases.

Sounds like a similar phenomenon occuring here.

It is an interesting correlation. But what caught my eye is the incidence of cardiac arrest in fans at the game. I am curious, what other medical issues commonly occur during sporting events and why?

I wonder why the incidence of certain issues increase at sporting event? My guess is due to the connection between emotions and autonomic nervous system via the hypothalmus. Perhaps too much stimulation?

How about the capacity of emergency facilities at sporting events, are they well prepared and adequately staffed?

Most stadiums, tracks, etc., are large. I think it would make sense that appropriate healthcare facilities are available throughout the stadium and not at just at a central location.

I think it is more important that appropriate healthcare facilites are near the stadium. If is a serious health emergency, a full service hospital is needed.

But with certain medical emergencies, you need timely intervention and I think that would require having healthcare facilities at strategic locations around the stadium.
