All mental disorders cost society a significant amount of money, since for the most part, once a person develops a mental illness, they have it for the rest of their life. I wonder what recommendations have been developed for other mental illnesses?

While I would agree that most mental illnesses need to be controlled for the person's lifetime, I would disagree with you that the costs of treatment will be spread out in different parts of society for the person's lifetime. My understanding is that for many types of mental illness, symptoms can be controlled and the person can lead a productive life.
