Med schools have been pushing pretty hard for the last 10-15 to increase the diversity of their classes.
Is there any evidence that this increased diversity is translating into less disparity in health outcomes? Hospital Ratings Medical Resource Group, LLC

The real question is whether medical schools have actually accomplished their goal of increasing diversity. I think that you will find that the numbers haven't changed all that much in increasing more diverse medical school classes, and the number of traditional minorities has even declined. The Sullivan Commission Report noted that African-American physicians increased from 3.5 percent in 1960 to 3.9 percent in 2000, in other words an increase of 0.4 percent in forty years. I don't think we'll see evidence of a difference in healthcare disparities until there is a real difference in the diversity of workforce health professions.

Well that is a surprise to me. Building diversity is always an explicit goal in recruiting, but I thought we were making progress.

I am currently in medical school and it is fairly diverse in one sense (people of different ethic backgrounds) but there is only one or two people of each background. In the case of African Americans, we have 10 black students in a class of 155.

Even if your class is diverse, does that necessarily mean the students will practice in areas that serve patients from their same background?
I don't think it does.
