Definition of Glucuronic Acid | A chemical compound that is comprised of a carboxylic acid and the uronic acid derivative of glucose with detoxifying properties. Glucuronic acid is soluble in water and alcohol. When it is linked via a glycosidic bond to uridine diphosphate, the acid acts as an intermediate within the process of glucuronidation. This agent exerts its detoxifying effect by conjugating various substances in the liver so as to detoxify or inactivate them. Glucuronic Acid is from the group Carboxylic Acids
