Definition of ACE Inhibitor
A class of agents that target at angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which catalyzes conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. As a result these inhibitors cause vasodilation and mild natriuresis. In addition, ACE inhibitors induce prostaglandin synthesis, which also plays a role in their antihypertensive effects.
