Definition of Cosmid Vector
A cloning vector derived from the bacteriophage lambda. Such a vector includes at least one cos site, the target for DNA uptake into bacteriophage particles and integration into the host genome. Cosmid vector can hold larger pieces of foreign DNA (inserts) than plasmids. Cosmids are maintained as circular molecules. Inserts are generally limited to less than 50 Kb.
