Definition of Bromodeoxyuridine
A halogenated pyrimidine analogue that has been investigated for antineoplastic and radiosensitizing activities. Bromodeoxyuridine competes with thymidine for incorporation into DNA, resulting in DNA mutation and inhibition of cell proliferation. As a radiosensitizer, this agent induces the formation of reactive uracil radicals, resulting in DNA strand breaks and, ultimately, disruption of the cell cycle. (NCI04)
