Definition of Alum Adjuvant

An inorganic compound containing aluminum. Used in various immunologic preparations to improve immunogenicity, alum adjuvant consists of aluminum sulfate. In vaccines, this agent binds to the protein conjugate, resulting in improved antigen processing by the immune system. (NCI04)
